Daiva guptam- protected by the Lord

For a person not conversant with Srimad Bhagavatam philosophy, it is difficult to comprehend that everything that happens in a devotee’s life is directly arranged by Krishna.

Why would Krishna get involved?

Lord Krishna gives us the answer in the Bhagavat Gita;

Bhagavat Gita 4.11- As all surrender unto Me, I reward them accordingly. Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Pṛthā.

Imagine a person who is at the peak of his youth, ready to explore the world, enjoy life and search for ways to gratify the senses, but instead, by Krishna’s arrangement, he comes across the devotees who introduce him to the philosophy of Srimad Bhagavatam and now, instead of pursuing happiness in material things, he begins his inner journey which is a different type of adventure, unknown to the majority of the population.

Despite all the material desires deeply rooted in his heart, at a young age, he commits himself to performing 2-3 hours of sadhana daily, which consists of prayers, chanting mantras, reading scriptures and performing puja (deity worship). Besides that, he engages his skills and talents to serve devotees in whichever capacity he can. When possible, he visits holy places and performs even more sadhana and service there.

Feeling fortunate to have received spiritual knowledge, he becomes inspired to share with others what he has learned. People may abuse him with harsh words and even threaten him for choosing this path, but he tolerates it all out of compassion for them.

Now think for a moment – how can Krishna not intervene in the life of a devotee who gives his everything to serve Him?

Even if such a devotee is full of faults and has many material desires in the heart, Krishna has a deep affection for a soul who sincerely endeavours to develop a relationship with Him.

Srimad Bhagavatam 9.4.65- Since pure devotees give up their homes, wives, children, relatives, riches and even their lives simply to serve Me, without any desire for material improvement in this life or the next, how can I give up such devotees at any time?
