In the year 2014 we went on pilgrimage to India. As part of our pilgrimage we visited Ekacakra, the place where Lord Nityananda took birth and performed His early pastimes.
Being eager to learn more about this place I asked a local devotee sadhu to give me a tour.
We visited many places where Lord Nityananda performed his transcendental pastimes.
At the end of the tour my guide wanted to show me the place where they had started to build a new temple.
He took me on special tour this time. The temple was being built behind the old asram, on a field surrounded by trees and land where people grew some vegetables for their livelihood.
While walking on that field, following my guide, suddenly a few inches away from my leg a massive snake jumped our and almost bit me.
Shaken and frightened, I screamed and called out for my guide. He just looked at me with a big smile, and broken english said: “special mercy, you got darshan of Sesa who is Balaram Himself, and who is nondifferent than Nityananda.”
Reflecting on that experience I meditate on how careful we need to be while performing devotional service.
Sometimes because of a desire to become recognised, famous or desire for a higher post, we often step on the heads of other devotees not considering their feelings.
That snake almost biting me is constant reminder for me to be careful while dealing with other devotees.
If we are not careful we may step on the head of someone who is very dear to the lord and this step could be the last in our devotional life.
